Strengthening Faith Through the Written Word of God

Kevin Concepcion is not your typical college sophomore. With a dream of becoming a neurosurgeon and a heart set on helping children battling neuro-oncological diseases, Kevin's life is fueled by a purpose much greater than himself. But his journey to purpose wasn’t straightforward.

Growing up in South Florida, Kevin always knew God was real. As a cradle Catholic, he attended church with his family but never fully understood the depth of faith. By the time he reached high school, Kevin found himself lost, and the confusion continued into his freshman year at FSU, where he arrived searching for meaning but looking in all the wrong places. Yet, even in his brokenness, God was calling him back.

One day he found himself at church, where he was compelled to scan a QR code that led him to a sign-up form. Bible Study, he thought. A few days later, Jordan Agagan, a CSU missionary, reached out, inviting him to lunch. Kevin agreed, unaware that this simple meeting would change his life.

“That’s when my whole life changed,” Kevin recalls. “Jordan asked me, ‘Do you think you can be happier than you’ve ever been before?’ It blew my mind.” This question sparked a journey of rediscovery. Kevin began attending Bible studies, Spirit Night, and other CSU events, slowly peeling back the layers of the darkness that had been clouding his soul.

Through CSU, Kevin found a community of reliable brothers who genuinely cared about his soul. “I always found people who used me,” he shares. “But here, I found real people who would listen, support me, and walk with me on this journey.”

Bible study became a cornerstone of Kevin's renewal. It was more than just reading scripture; it was a place of accountability, brotherhood, and truth. “We don’t sugarcoat anything,” Kevin explains. “We hold each other accountable and push each other to grow closer to Christ.”

Kevin's transformation was neither quick nor easy, but journeying together with a group of men learning about Jesus, each step brought him closer to freedom. This faith deepened as he learned to see Jesus not just as a distant figure but as a Savior who died for his sins.

Today, Kevin dreams of becoming a pediatric neurosurgeon, not for status or wealth, but to give children a second chance at life. “These kids are so innocent and full of promise,” he says with deep compassion. “I want to be there for them in their most desperate times, to give them hope and a second chance.”
Kevin’s journey isn’t over. He continues to grow in faith and purpose, supported by the community at CSU. He prays over his future patients and envisions a life dedicated to healing both body and soul.
